Fundamentals: This class is for those just beginning their jiu jitsu journey. We teach the foundational movements in jiu jitsu – the hip escape, front roll, back roll, etc. as well as the most basic concepts and techniques. Because this class is designed for beginners, we focus a larger portion of the class on technique, ensuring that our students can execute the movements properly and safely. *Blue belt and below.

Intermediate/Advanced: This class is our core class offering. Our Intermediate/Advanced program is designed for the everyday practitioner and is a mixed level class. In this class, we teach those techniques with the highest percentage of success, and delve into the details that allow you to execute them even better. For those who have a solid foundation, we teach higher level techniques and complex sequences, allowing you to take your game to the next level. We also integrate more positional sparring and live rolling, enabling you to put your knowledge to practice.

Judo, or the “gentle way,” is a martial art created by Jigoro Kano in 1882. It’s named the “gentle way” because the essence of Judo is to use your opponent’s energy against him, without having to exert unnecessary amounts of force. This program is currently lead by Paúl Pinto, 3rd dan Judo Black Belt, to our coaching staff. Paul will lead our Judo program for kids, teens, and adults. He is the former 66kg/73kg division National Champion, multiple time International event champion and medalist. Nine time National Collegiates coach champion and former National Judo Development Program Director. He is currently the UPRAG varsity Judo coach. This martial art uses throws, pins, and submissions that all start from the feet.

For our 7-13 year old kids, we focus on developing strong fundamentals and we teach more complex techniques and sequences. Incorporating more drills, positional sparring, and live rolling. We push our 7-13 kids to be more disciplined in their training, and accountable for their participation and personal growth.

Our Youth Wrestling program is lead by Coach Spencer Burns, a 4 year collegiate starter and Team captain for the University of Chicago with an amazing 132-20 high school record. This program is a great introduction into basics of grappling. They will focus on a variety of skills, from take-downs to pins, with fitness as a large component of training.

For our 5 & 6 year old kids, we continue focusing on their fundamentals, as well as building on their toolbox of techniques. We introduce drills, positional sparring, and limited live rolling, so they learn how to apply what they’ve learned in more realistic scenarios.

For our 3 & 4 year old pre-school aged kids, we focus on the most basic of jiu jitsu techniques, utilizing simple movements and games to help your child develop good body awareness and balance.
